The Immigration Consultants policy explained...
What's special about this policy?
As a consultant, you could be personally liable for giving incorrect advice.
This means you need the protection of your own Professional Indemnity insurance.
Our policy works for you in five ways:
- You are protected from full civil liabilities.
- you are protected from negligence or breach of duty of care.
- You are protected from claims of defamation of character.
- You are protected from dishonesty.
- You are protected from breaches of international property rights.

Why do you need Professional Indemnity Insurance?
You need Professional Indemnity insurance because you are regarded as providing a professional service. In law, as a professional, you owe a duty of care to the people you work for and these days, people who use professional services are more likely than ever to blame the professional when things go wrong.
As an immigration consultant, you could be regarded as working for an immigration centre, a local authority, an agency, as well as those seeking to immigrate - a large number of potential claimants.
The chance of a claim being made against you is very small; but, if a claim was made, you could find it very expensive to defend yourself.
Claims example
One of your clients has accepted a job in the US and has asked you to arrange the necessary permissions.
Your initial enquiries tell you that the appropriate type of visa is currently over-subscribed and will not be issued again until later in the year. You inform your client and get on with your business.
Later in the year you receive notification of a claim from your client alleging that you have misrepresented and misadvised him by not getting the visa he required in the time that he wanted it.
Thankfully, your Professional Indemnity insurance will pay your legal costs in defending the claim along with any compensation you may be liable for.
