The Design & Illustration policy explained...
What's special about this policy?
The key is that this policy from Blyth Valley enables you to maintain good relationships with your clients because unlike most other Professional Indemnity policies, the client doesn't have to sue before it pays out.
Our policy works for you in four ways:
- It covers you if a mistake you make leads to a dispute with a client. If a dispute turns really nasty, Hiscox's legal team will defend the claim against you and, if you lose the case, the policy will pay any damages for which you're liable.
- The policy will reimburse you for the cost of putting a mistake right if this will avoid you getting into a dispute with a client in the first place.
- It also covers you against direct financial losses that occur as a result of the dishonesty of employees or freelancers, and if documents in your care are lost, damaged or destroyed.
- If a claim is made against you for infringement of intellectual property rights or defamation which is not a result of your business activity but arises from the adveritisng or marketing of your own business, you will be covered.
What's more, we're flexible enough to realise that if you fail to meet a deadline, you may have to rectify a problem out of office hours. With most other Professional Indemnity policies, you can't make a move without getting express permission from the underwriter.

Why do you need Professional Indemnity Insurance?
It's a pressured business and sometimes, no matter how careful you are, a job gets rushed, a message becomes confused, or a supplier gets sloppy.
You're left with a piece of work you know is substandard and an unhappy client.
At Blyth Valley, we specialise in Professional Indemnity insurance. The policies we provide are designed to protect your interests in the face of slip-ups that can happen no matter how careful you are.
The benefit of this policy is that your client doesn't have to make a claim against you before it pays out. This could allow you to put right a mistake before the client is even aware that something is wrong: saving you money and saving face.
Claims example
A major tourism event was planned and a designer had been asked to produce over 50,000 brochures for the campaign. Errors in the final brochure included incorrect spelling and some distorted images.
Understandably, the designer's client found the final product unacceptable. The designer's Professional Indemnity insurers agreed that reprinting the brochure could avoid a complaint and costly claim. Insurers paid for the reprint and the final brochure was delivered to a very happy client in advance of the big day.
