Personal accident insurance will help protect your income if an accident prevents you from working. It can also be used to protect the income of the people who work for you.

The insurance will pay either:

• a lump sum payment of up to £100,000 if an accident prevents you from ever working in your usual occupation, or
• a weekly payment of up to £500 per week for up to 104 weeks if the accident temporarily prevents you from working in your usual occupation.

The policy will also pay £30 for each day that you are hospitalised.

You can choose between two types of cover:

• 24 hour cover - which means that cover applies to accidents occuring at any time;
• occupational cover - which means cover only applies to accidents occuring in the course of work. 

How much personal accident cover can I have?

Personal accident insurance is sold in units of cover. A unit of cover is equivalent to a £10,000 capital sum or £50 per week for up to 104 weeks.

You can select up to 10 units of cover per person, so the maximum cover anyone could have would be £100,000 capital sum or £500 per week for 104 weeks.
